Privacy policy
This site is published by Long-Term New Media Limited. It carries advertising served by Google, which means third parties collect data about your visit. This page sets out what is collected, by whom, and what you can do about it.
Last updated: August 2026
What we collect ourselves
Very little. The site is a set of static pages. We do not operate user accounts, we do not run a newsletter, and there are no forms that submit data to us — the contact page publishes an email address rather than a form.
Our web server keeps standard access logs, as essentially all web servers do. These contain the requested URL, the time of the request, the originating IP address, the referring page and the browser user-agent string. We use them to diagnose faults and to see which pages are read. They are not combined with any other source of information about you and are not sold or shared.
If you email us, we keep that correspondence in order to reply to it and to maintain a record of technical corrections. We do not add your address to any mailing list.
Advertising, cookies and third parties
This is the part that matters, because it involves more data than anything we do ourselves.
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. As a consequence:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Beyond cookies, these third parties may read or set other identifiers, and may process your IP address, device and browser characteristics, approximate location derived from your IP address, and the pages you view here. Web beacons (small transparent images or scripts) may be used for the same purpose.
- Third-party advertising vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve advertisements on this site and may themselves set cookies.
We do not control these cookies, cannot read their contents, and do not receive the personal data collected through them. The advertising companies involved act as independent data controllers for that processing.
Opting out of personalised advertising
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by Google by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com.
- Your browser's own settings can block or delete cookies entirely. Blocking advertising cookies does not remove the advertisements; it makes them less relevant.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland
Where required, a consent message is shown before advertising cookies and similar technologies are used for personalised advertising, and your choice is recorded and passed to advertising vendors. You can change that choice at any time using the privacy or consent link presented in the message, or by clearing this site's cookies in your browser, which will cause the message to be shown again on your next visit.
If you are in the United States
Depending on your state, you may have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising. Where a universal opt-out signal such as Global Privacy Control is transmitted by your browser, it is honoured by Google's ad serving as a restricted data processing signal.
Analytics
We do not run a separate analytics product on this site. Advertising requests inherently give the ad vendor information about the page being viewed, as described above.
Children
This site addresses commercial lighting specification and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the content is not tagged as child-directed for advertising purposes.
External links
We link to standards bodies, manufacturers and technical references. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control and are not responsible for.
Retention
Server logs are retained for a limited operational period and then discarded. Email correspondence is retained while it remains relevant to a technical correction or an enquiry. Data held by advertising vendors is retained according to their own policies, which their privacy pages set out.
Your rights and how to exercise them
Depending on where you live you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, or objection in respect of personal data. For data we hold — realistically, server logs and email correspondence — write to hklongtermad@gmail.com. For data held by Google and other advertising vendors, use the controls linked above or contact those companies directly, since we have no access to it.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the updated date at the top of this page changes with it.
